PREPARING FOR AN EMERGENCY: 8 Basic Emergency Preparations the Coronavirus Reaction Can Teach Us

There are 8 basic things needed in a real emergency that a home should always have on them. This is not an exhaustive list, it is only meant as a starter.

1. First Aid Kit, it’s important to have a first aid kit on hand to attend to any injuries that might occur.

2. Water, At least a week’s worth, for the amount of people, pets, and needs for your home.

3. Canned and/or freeze-dried foods, like the kind you can purchase from the wisecompany.us or mountainhouse.com, for approximately one week. The freeze-dried food last for many years in a storage container, I highly recommend it.

4. Keep your vehicles at half a tank or more. (If you only own an electric vehicle, remember it will not charge if power is down. Sorry Tesla.) A couple extra gas cans, in the garage, if you have some are not a bad idea either.

5. Firearms for protection, sorry to those of you who do not like guns, but in a real emergency they can be a life saver. Take the time before an emergency to learn how to use one comfortably. Safety is first here.

6. Camping gear, in an easy to load bin, in case your leaving your home in a fire or flood type emergency.

7. Portable gas stove. Propane is okay, but real fuel lasts longer and is smaller for transportation.

8. Bible, I know, not what many of you would expect this one, remember man shall not live on bread alone but by every word of God. When things go bad, it helps to pause and get some wisdom.

These are some basics of being prepared for a real emergency for one week. Information about Corona Virus was found on the center for disease control at https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-nCoV/summary.html. We are not being paid for any of the recommendations in this post.
